HBI is excited to announce that the final phase of the redevelopment at the H.H. Richardson-designed Hayden Building is now underway. Contractor Marc Truant & Associates began work last week, converting the upper floors of this Boston Landmark into four stylish loft apartments. With construction well underway at the neighboring Kensington, there’s a lot of activity and limited space at this corner of Washington and LaGrange Streets, making the Hayden’s construction logistics quite a challenge for our team. The first order of business is demolition of interior finishes on all five stories of the building, activity typically supported by a trash shoot to a dumpster on the street. Unfortunately, there’s no space for that here. Laborers had to carry all the materials by hand to the first floor, where it still sits until it can be loaded into a truck for removal.
The next phase of work will reframe and reinforce the floors and modify interior steel bracing. While this work is happening, final bids are being gathered for the full scope of construction. Total construction cost for the project is expected to be $5.4 million. Completion is scheduled for early 2013.
It’s not too early to contact HBI if you are interested in renting one of these unique apartments!
